Goodwill Industries Week is May 7 to 13, and we are celebrating 115 years of building better futures and changing lives! Goodwill Industries Week has taken place the first full week of May since 1951. As part of the celebration, Goodwill® organizations around the United States and Canada will host career fairs and donation drives, offer tours and conduct other celebratory events. You can learn more about the events in your local community by visiting www.goodwill.org/week/.

Since 1902, local Goodwill organizations have been helping people find jobs, build their financial stability, and strengthen their families and communities. This work has helped thousands of people build their careers and experience the pride and sense of community that work brings. Goodwill’s services include job training and community services, such as help in writing resumes and providing job interview advice, financial education and mentoring. Last year, Goodwill assisted 313,000 people in their career pathways in the United States and Canada and provided job-training services and access Goodwill education, training, mentoring and online learning services to 36.5 million people looking to strengthen their skills.

Tiarra Barrera-Hammond is one example of a person who used Goodwill specialized training in nursing to advance her career. Barrera-Hammond, a single mother of two children, was once homeless. She enrolled in Goodwill’s Certified Nurse Assistant training program in Long Beach, CA. Upon completing her first credential, she was inspired to continue her education, finishing the registered nurse program at Long Beach City College. Barrera-Hammond recently met with members of Congress and their staff as part of Goodwill’s annual Advocacy Day.

You can show your support for the work and mission of Goodwill by lending your voice and becoming an advocate. By signing up for our Legislative Action Center, you’ll receive updates on our public policy agenda and you can connect with your member of Congress asking for their support for Goodwill and the people we serve.

As North America’s leading nonprofit provider of job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs, Goodwill is helps people overcome challenges that prevent them from finding and keeping good jobs. Your support helps us achieve our mission, not just during Goodwill Industries Week – but every day of every week.
